The importance of high pressure water jetting of inlet and outlet grease trap plumbing lines.
Aside from the routine pumping and waste removal service of your grease trap or grease interceptor, a high pressure water jetting of your inlet and outlet plumbing lines is essential to ensure a problem free plumbing system.
Problem:
Too often restaurant and commercial kitchen owners neglect to properly service their grease trap or grease interceptor, and in turn unknowingly create a “double whammy” of service related issues. Neglecting to properly service a grease collection unit in a proper and acceptable time-frame causes major issues within the internal workings of the unit such as code violation overflows, baffle damage, internal corrosion, and most frequently, complete grease back-ups within the grease trap inlet and outlet plumbing lines (eek!).
When the trap or interceptor is not cleaned properly, it completely packs full with coagulated and calcified grease, fats, oils, and food solid particles, which conversely disallows the flow of waste-water from within the plumbing system to and from the unit. Due to the inability of flow from the plumbing system to the grease trap, and then from the trap to the city sanitary sewer, the lines become completely packed full of grease and back up the entire facility’s kitchen prep’ operation. When this occurs, the only option is a costly “double whammy” visit by a certified grease trap cleaning company to remove the waste within the unit, and a licensed plumber to jet the inlet and outlet lines to restore proper flow.
Solution:
To avoid costly emergency service visits from a certified grease trap cleaning company and a licensed plumber, it’s a good idea to simply:
1) Service your grease trap or grease interceptor in no more than 90-days or as needed.
and
2) Have a plumber or properly equipped grease trap cleaning company jet the inlet and outlet lines 1 to 2 times per year as a preventative maintenance measure. (It’s much less expensive and convenient to do this routinely, then to be forced to do this in an emergency situation.)
